Most of us have seen a set of the so-called ‘jackknife’ ignition keys. You know the ones: a press of a button causes the business end of the key to flip outwards, permitting it to light the fires on a car and instigating those of us with active personalities to say “HI-YA!” while jabbing the thing skyward as if it were a real jackknife.

No? Huh; maybe it’s just me, then.

Anyways, that type of key is at the crux of a major recall for Nissan, one which involves nearly a quarter million Rogue SUVs.

Today's UCOTD is a $5,500 sporty Nissan that's over 30 years old, in "ok" shape, and according to the seller, able to surprise "American muscle".

It's a 1991 Nissan Sentra SE-R with a SR20DET engine from a U12 Bluebird.

The Takata airbag recall is massive and ongoing today, despite being issued years ago. Nissan recently recalled hundreds of thousands of vehicles for another dangerous airbag issue, this time related to the company’s steering wheel badge.

Nissan did very well selling the rear-wheel-drive Sunny in North America, as the Datsun 1200, Datsun B210, and Datsun 210. When the Sunny went to a new front-wheel-drive platform in 1981, the North American version began showing up here as the Nissan Sentra (United States and Canada) and the Tsuru (Mexico) during the following year. 1980s Sentras have become very rare in the car graveyards I frequent, so I have documented this '87 in Denver.

While we wait for Nissan to come to its senses and bring back the XTerra as a Ford Bronco -- or maybe, more likely Bronco Sport -- fighter with true off-road chops, we can gaze upon this 2002 Nissan XTerra and daydream.

Nissan is reportedly on track to have its very first solid-state battery production plant up and running by 2025, with vehicles leveraging the technology by 2028. While these units are supposed to offer increased range and decreased charging times, improving EV ownership, they also have some shortcomings engineering teams have yet to address.
