I agree with Stingray on this --- a 80's GM A-Body. However, I'll go out on a limb and say a Pontiac 6000, just because.......

@Stingray Relax, don't take anything I say too seriously. The gap around the fuel door of the Civic (linked picture) is larger than the one in the clue picture :) I saw a BMW 5-series last week with a gap around the bottom of the trunk lid large enough for me to stick my thumb into.
