Getting it?

See where I’m going with this?

OK, maybe not.

OK, so it’s a bit of an exaggeration. Still…

What I find really interesting is that the Panera resembles the Cayman, Boxster and 911 much more than it does the Pontiac Grand Prix. That’s 3 more 3WTP posts in the can for you, right there!

Bulbous body bits, the hallmark of the large Pontiac sedan. A car that relates to the average middle-aged American: “You got a double chin? we have one too, we’re feelin’ ya!”

  • avatar
    ajla

I don’t see the resemblance personally.

    Pontiacs look like spiders.

The Panamera looks like a toad.

  • avatar
    Bridge2far

The Pontiac looks a hell of a lot nicer than the Panerawhatever!

  • avatar

Nah, the Panamera looks like a squashed Cayenne from behind.

Not at all like the Pontiac. Which is good, because the Solstice and G8 are the only Pontiacs that haven’t made me gag since I was a teenager and my parents had a c. 1989 Bonneville SSE. And the only reason that didn’t make me gag was because I was only a teenager.

Hey you’re right, these butts do seek resemblance with each other. They both have taillights, quad exhaust tips, and an area to display your license plate!

They look as much alike as Hilary Clinton and Heidi Klum.

If it wasn’t for the quad pipes, Hyundai would be a reasonable guess.

    Uggh – both are ugly.

Gosh the panamera isn’t that ugly. I haven’t been in one yet, but I’m sure like every Porsche, the build quality, performance, and driving experience is the best in the business. There really is no substitute.

CamaroKid: That is an insult to Mrs. Samuel.

I’ll go with “that Porsche has one ugly ass for $1000, Alex.”

    Whoops, Sorry, my bad…

What I meant was the look as much alike as Seal and Hilary.

I know where you are really going with this. Two pics from the rear, as in, 2 cars that are leaving us/history/failed, so get outta here.

Oh, I thought it was going to be one of the AMG models actually? SL perhaps?

  • avatar
    IGB

Turbo too….mmmmm….ugly, yes. Still I’d hit that.

At the end of the day, the tail of the new gullwing throwback Merc is uglier.

  • avatar

Before the jump I thought it was all about a new clear spray-on coating for your license plate that would make it illegible for speed cams. Wishful thinking I guess….

The Grand Prix looks better actually. As for what’s wrong with this picture, I briefly thought you’d forgotten to put on your pants before you took the first picture. It happens.

    DearS

The Porsche does not look as bad as I thought from that angle. The Pontiac has always made me nauseous. Along with a few over Pontiacs and GM vehicles from that time.

  • avatar

Sir Mix-a-lot is not pleased with these buns. Good to see I wasn’t the only one who always thought the Pontiac’s rump was offensively misshapen.

Should throw an Accord in there for a menage a trois.

The panel gaps in the trunk and tail lights are smaller and better fit on the Pontiac.

  • avatar
    gslippy

Try doing that switcharoo with a late-model GTO and previous-generation Nissan Sentra, and you’ll understand why the plain GTO never caught anyone’s eye.

But I’m not seeing it with the Panamera and the Grand Prix. And personally, I like the Panamera’s looks better.

  • avatar
    Davekaybsc

Sorry, but I don’t see it. What is see is this:

    Porsche 928

The Panamera’s rear end is an homage to Porsche’s original ugly fat ass.

  • avatar
    Demetri

The Panamera is kind of weird, but nothing is as bad as a 90s-early 00s Pontiac. Pontiac had the most consistently terrible styling in the industry at that time.

  • avatar
    TaurusGT500

    Wow! Dead Ringers for sure!

…they’re both painted black …made of metal plastic and rubber … have dual exhausts … and both use vowels AND consonants in their names.

Where are the lawyers when you need them.

  • avatar
    ponchoman49

The Panamera looks like ass and the Pontiac looks ok. Oh and the Pontiac has tighter panal gaps than the outlandishly expensive Panamera and the Grand Prix in the picture is of 04-08 vintage not 90’s and early 00. It looks better than most of the mediocre lookalike blandmobiles coming from most automakers today.

Heres one to try. Take a Lincoln MKS, most any new Lexus Sedan, the new LaCrosse, Acura TL, Hyundai Genesis, BMW 5 series, Honda Accord, Pontiac G8 and line them all up for a side view. Talk about look alike appliances.

  • avatar
    TZ

    They look nothing alike.

Oh, wait. They’re both black. So, there is that.

    Selektaa

You guys are really reaching here.

The Grand Prix’s problem isn’t that it’s ugly, it’s that the car really isn’t particularly good at anything. It isn’t fast. It isn’t sporty. It isn’t economical. Although it’s essentially the same size as its platformmate the Chevrolet Impala, it has a smaller trunk and less room inside.

The Porche Panamera? Fine, I guess. I’ll never spend that kind of money on a car, so what I think doesn’t matter.

Ugly? The 928? I’m going to have to go ahead and disagree with you on that one.

    @Selektaa:

    but, but, vowels AND consonants!
We’ve got a case. Now, I just need a JD.

I will be the first to add that the Porsche LOOKS sportier than the Grand Prix due to lower height, but who cares about that when you can have plastic rib-cladding styling!
