From a on the pavement grocery getter perspective the Patriot is a good replacement for the XJ Cherokee. Taken off-road it would embarrass itself. But if you are not going for off-road or 4WD ability why go with a Chrysler product? The Xb, Cube, Soul, Fit or Element all serve the same niche. A big part of the appeal of the XJ is that it provided 80% of the capability of a YJ or TJ Wrangler while being a practical and comfortable car that you could live with as a daily driver. In comparison the YJ is the inner circle of NVH Hell with the usable interior room of a Geo Metro. The TJ was only a slight improvement. The mileage claims are plausible, given a decent size battery bank and a small 4 cyl engine.

Robert, Why do you seem doubtful? Let's let the paint dry first, then give them a chance.

  • BlackEldo Why even offer a Murano? They have the Rogue and the Pathfinder. What differentiates the Murano? Fleet sales?
  • Jalop1991 Nissan is Readying a Slew of New Products to Boost Sales and ProfitabilitySo they're moving to lawn and garden equipment?
  • Yuda I'd love to see what Hennessy does with this one GAWD
  • Lorenzo I just noticed the 1954 Ford Customline V8 has the same exterior dimensions, but better legroom, shoulder room, hip room, a V8 engine, and a trunk lid. It sold, with Fordomatic, for $21,500, inflation adjusted.
  • Lorenzo They won't be sold just in Beverly Hills - there's a Nieman-Marcus in nearly every big city. When they're finally junked, the transfer case will be first to be salvaged, since it'll be unused.
