Daily Podcast: OK, I Lied

Well, not lied, exactly. More like flip-flopped. In my last podcast epistle, I said TTAC wouldn’t make you jump on blog posts because that would be better for us (page views) than you (convenience). And it’s all about you (TTAC readers), not us (anti-social writers who have to make a living somehow). And then Justin and I began to discover something interesting. While other automotive websites use the click through to bore the shit out of readers with press releases (Autoblog), or as a money shot come-on-you-know-you-want-to (Jalopnik), we found we could do more creatively using two bites than one. In other words, we can provide the main news and then give you some background info and/or additional de-spinnage. Headline. Then color. Of course, that’s not true in every case. So we’re restricting ourselves to those occasions where it, uh, is. If this is pissing you off, give it a few days for us to get settled-in. And meanwhile, we know we have some tweakage left for the new design. The programmers are, unlike some of us, taking the day off. Hence today’s profusion of profanity. Cooler heads will prevail tomorrow. Or not.

As I said before, the best path through galleries and links is to use firefoz or the most recent version of explorer. CTRL+left mouse button will open the link in a new tab, while leaving on on the page you currently read. Fantastic to open all the interesting items, and then read through them one by one.

I don't know if AKM's idea is the best way to go or not, but the galleries are slowing the site down so much it has become annoying. Even loading onto the News page has been a labored process taking almost a minute with all those thumbnails and our connection isn't slow, T-1. What if you just had ONE thumbnail that you clicked on to bring you to the rest of the photos or opened a seperate window like AKM was suggesting. I like all the changes excpt for how slow it has made the site recently. The podcast was really good today, but looked like it was kind of cut short. I know you guys want to keep them to 10 minutes, but you should consider breaking them into (2) 10 minute parts to keep the great listening going. I'm sure the other 10 listners wouldn't mind a little more to listen to.

"I don’t know if AKM’s idea is the best way to go or not, but the galleries are slowing the site down so much it has become annoying." If this is the band-wagon, I'm on it. I almost don't even visit from home anymore. It STOPs my laptop for a few minutes.

I have no problems with jumps...I just open stuff in new tabs by simply pressing the mouse wheel instead of the left mouse button. Very convenient. So go ahead and jump all you need.
