Cadillac CT5-V and CT4-V: Alpha Males With a Weakness?

“2.7L Turbo” — that’s General Motors’ preferred description of the large-displacement four-cylinder found in Chevrolet’s 2019 Silverado 1500. When wearing a Cadillac crest, however, the motor generates additional grunt and serves as the main motivator for the new CT4-V, a sportier version of Caddy’s new compact.

The CT4-V (seen above) debuted alongside the hotter version of its midsize sibling, the CT5-V, in an event held in Detroit Thursday night. No, the regular CT4 was not there. After getting over the shock of a V-badged Cadillac with a four-banger mill, guests were confused to learn that there may be additional V-badged versions of these two sedans.

Lately, we’ve featured a succession of posts relating to automotive style in the Nineties here at Question of the Day. We started out discussing the best of the best from America, Europe, and Asia. Then, last week, we moved on to the Worst Ever awards from America. Many of you said I was nuts for disliking the refreshed Lincoln Mark VIII. While I still don’t like the VIII post-’96, I’ll agree the Buick Skylark for 1992 would’ve been a better selection. There, happy?

Nissan Still Claiming Millennials Love Sedans

According to a study commissioned by Nissan, Millennials are committed to saving the sedan in an era when crossovers have usurped much of the market. While much of the study revolves around asking people whether they’d consider purchasing a sedan in the future — something any smart shopper would say “yes” to — survey respondents also said there was very little difference in terms of customer satisfaction between crossovers and sedans.

That’s good news for any automaker that launched a bundle of new and refreshed sedans over the past few years. Can you think of one?

Cadillac's CT4 Debuts at End of Month, Joined by a Brace of Vs

It’s a period of flux for Cadillac’s sedan lineup, one that mirrors the changes occurring across the segment as a whole. Old models are out, and in their place, a range of updated and restyled offerings aim to rekindle America’s love for traditional four-doors.

Fewer restyled offerings, one should note. As nameplates bleed out of the marketplace, Cadillac’s passenger car range will shrink from four models to three next year. We’ve already seen Caddy’s plan for its CTS successor — the Escala-inspired CT5 seen above — but the brand’s second sedan shoe has yet to drop.

You won’t have to wait long for the ATS’ replacement. The CT4 drops the curtain on May 30th, and, as many expected, both it and the CT5 will appear with V-badged performance editions.

Hereditary: 2020 Nissan Versa Is Unmistakably Nissan, Less Entry-level Than Before

Regardless of which angle it’s viewed from, Nissan’s next-generation Versa stands atop a box and screams “Nissan!” for all to hear. From the side, you’d be forgiven for thinking someone shrunk the Maxima. Looking at the upward-sweeping character line and upstairs/downstairs door handles, its identity could be that of the new Altima. Head-on, a pedestrian might think they were being run down by a Leaf.

Yes, the 2020 Versa keeps it in the family in terms of design, donning a corporate grille and styling flourishes borrowed from its larger siblings. Perusing the car’s specs, it seems that — flat-bottomed steering wheel aside — its mission hasn’t changed one iota.

  • Namesakeone I'm thinking that China--and the rest of the world--gets the idea that we don't pay our debts, and as such refuses to trade. Which would send our economy into a tailspin (remember, American companies export as well as import). Which would do a lot more harm than a ding on our Experian credit report; I doubt America could exist as a colony.
  • Rna65689660 Having lived in PA for over 20 years, their state inspections are pretty rigorous. No rust holes larger than a quarter are allowed. I had a fail because I was midpssing the rubber on the foot operated emergency brake. Another car, 72 Spitfire, had to go to 3 garages before one would approve the extra foggy plastic rear window. The mechanic reasoned, since they sell vans without rear windows, you don’t really need to see what’s behind you.

  • Canam23 Curiously Mitsubishi has very good PHEV tech which I think is the right transition tech from ICE to full EV. Reviewers always poo poo the Outlander but the owners love them and they are extremely reliable. I really hope they can generate a strong comeback because they have traditionally had some very interesting engineering. Apparently they have been doing much better the past few years, so here's hoping it works out for them.
