Used Car of the Day: 1974 Alfa Romeo Berlina 2000

Today's UCOTD is a rally-ready 1974 Alfa Romeo Berlina 2000.

This car has problems, such as rust, dents, and oil leaks. Oh, and a rear seal leak. And some transmission issues, a cracked windshield, and a steering box that doesn't work all that well.

There's good, too, apparently: A rebuilt motor, all-new suspension, NOS Abarth exhaust, roof rack, TZ wheels, Weber cars, rally driving lights, and Euro bumpers.

The car apparently fires right up and runs well, and has been used for vintage rallies and road trips.

The SoCal-based seller asks $8,000. Click here to check it out.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Do you really need things like a windshield, transmission, or steering box or are they simply more modern luxuries?

Tim: "click here" should be "click HERE." I m not 30 anymore and if the laptop screen is not at the 'right' angle, the red comes up as black. Pardon the nit picking. (but then again, real nits are a bad thing and should always be picked)

W.T.F. If this was one of Alfa's Coupes or convertibles, maybe, but a sedan? that's a hard no. A 1974 Fiat Brava looks better although it has the same issues. In this era of automobiles better to go domestic or for something different go with a Japanese or German that has good aftermarket support.

I have a calm and orderly life. This is so very tempting.
