Ford Added Another to Its 2023 Recall Pile with One for the F-150
Ford was the most-recalled automaker in 2023, and it had one more to slide in before the new year rolled in. The company is recalling more than 100,000 F-150s for an issue with the rear axle hub bolt that could cause it to break and make a crash or rollaway more likely. Ford issued the recall on December 22.
The Blue Oval is recalling 112,965 2021-2023 F-150s equipped with the “Trailer Tow Max Duty Package and 9.75-inch heavy-duty axle with a three-quarter float axle design.” That’s a very specific configuration, but Ford sells enough F-150s every year that it adds up to a significant number of trucks being recalled. The largest number of affected vehicles came in 2021, and the fewest came in 2023.
Recall documentation notes that the rear axle hub bolt may break, stating that “damaged axle hub splines can result in a vehicle roll away when the vehicle is in part without the parking brake applied, or cause a loss of drive power.”
Ford doesn’t have a fix ready for the issue yet but said a remedy is under development. Owners are advised to take their truck to a dealer for a short-term fix if they notice symptoms related to the problem, such as a clicking or rattling noise.”

Was Ford wise to choose the "special edition F150" name of RATTLER ?
A good friend of mine is a diehard Ford fan and I love giving him flack about this. Sweet, another opportunity.
Had a 2014 Ford F150 eco boost supercrew by the time it reached 80,000mi it went through two rear main oil seals, with one replaced at 52,000mi and at 80,000 it was leaking again. It then had a leaking transmission seal. Then the driver side turbo was leaking. Then the passenger side turbo had to be replaced. Then the timing chain front cover was leaking. In regards to the rear main seal leaking twice Ford wouldn’t honor the second repair due to it being beyond the three year warranty. Traded that ecopoop ford on carvana and bought a 2021Toyota Tundra SR5. Much better truck. Ford is definitely not quality Job #1
