70 Chevelle SS454 : Before you think it’s incompetence, bear in mind that someone’s cousin made $1000 for putting up that sign. Once you realize that everyone has a cousin, you will understand DC city government. Actually, that's not limited to DC city government...it applies to all government.

I love Google. First, I discover that this was part of a project from 2004 to consolidate the information on three separate signs onto one sign. It didn't work out too well and so the one-sign-fits-all didn't replace the separate signs throughout the rest of the district. Second, the sign is not a PhotoShop. This Google Street View clearly shows the above-pictured sign at 1983 New Hampshire Ave NW, Washington, DC, United States. Third, though the project may not have been successful, at least the DDOT experimented first instead of having tens of thousands of bad signs made. Not everything the government does is incompetent. Why is the sign still up? Who knows. Maybe they're still planning better signs . . .

(excitedly waiving hands in the air) The sign is still up because of ... government incompetence? Did I win, did I win?
