pontiacsolstice.jpgAnother day, another leak. Pontiac's PR "accidentally" posted a preview of the NY Auto Show's debut on Pontiac's website, and it "accidentally" contains a picture of the Solstice coupe that's headed for production. The coupe will do away with the convertible's biggest flaw: being a convertible. Then again, it also means giving up the Solstice's biggest redeeming quality: when the top is down, it's a pleasant roadster. That said, it should be a hoot when set up with the 2.0-liter, 260-horse turbo. Camaro cannibalization? Of course not. We'll have pictures from the NY show in a few days. In the meantime, when are we going to stop these blatant attempts at media manipulation "leaks?"

As long as long as it continues to work, they will continue to “leak”.

Are sales of the twins sagging, or is this a planned progression? Or both?

And, with this, the G6 coupe now becomes largely useless.

Personally, I’d get this Solstice before the Camaro, but I might be in the minority.

ajla: If they make a CXP version with that sweet, sweet 2.0-liter turbo 260 hp mill, then I’m with you.

But I hope they iron out at least some of the many, many kinks.

The G6 coupe is a completely different car from the Solstice coupe. There is virtually no overlap between a heavy, floaty, FWD, 4-5 passenger coupe and a light(er), 2 seat RWD coupe

If the G6 convertible and the Solstice can coexist (although I don’t think either are doing too well at the moment), there’s no reason why the G6 coupe and the Solstice coupe shouldn’t be able to coexist either

    Gorgeous.
My only regret is that I don’t fit in the convertible….same for the coupe, I reckon.
If you’re over 5’10″, shop elsewhere!

Sorry, I meant to type “for me” at the end of my “largely useless” comment. It was supposed to be more of a personal declaration that I would now forget about the prospect of G6 coupe ownership- not a comment about their general sweet spot in the marketplace.

This should quite a rigid little dude. It won’t take much to be sexier than the Z4 coupe.

The Solstice is so much smaller than either a G6 or a Camaro that they should all appeal to different groups of buyers.

I’ll give it a couple of years to tank, then assuming Pontiac still exists consider it as a fun second car without all the problems that the retracted roof caused in the convertible. I wonder if there’s any chance they utilized the fact that the coupe has a roof to strip out some weight that was associated with stiffening the chasis of the convertible? Probably not, it is GM afterall.

I actually kinda like the way it looks…

But as a whole, I’m finding it more and more difficult to care about what GM is rolling out these days. What with all of the cannibalizing and badge engineering…

the lack of a roof is mainly why i passed up the solstice, miata, s2000, etc. for all these years. with the phrt miata, i was intrigued, but i still have no use for a convertible. i just want a coupe. this one should be quite tempting…

I keep waiting for an MX-5 Coupe with Mazdaspeed Turbos. Is it possible Pontiac will beat Mazda to the punch?

I might actually want to buy one of these (with the 2.0L turbo, of course.) Never thought I’d say that about any GM product besides the Corvette.

I still wish they would have made that B E A U T I F U L Chevy Nomad. It would have given GM a chance to steal some of the MINI’s audience.

To me the Nomad looks like the love child of a G35/Cooper tryst, except better looking than either parent.

I’d take the Solstice coupe with the turbo 4 over the Camaro any day of the week. That could be a very fun little car to drive, but only if it is priced similarly to Hyundai’s new RWD coupe…but it seats 4 (not sure I’d put anyone but small children in the back of it).

Actually, that looks like a pretty nice car. I’d buy one, after the hype wears off and I can get it with $3,000 off and 0% financing.

    What an ugly front

How much is the base model going to be, do you think?
