Audi Press Car Used to Help Flood Victims

Press-car abuse is a part of the automotive journalism industry. So, too, is damage caused by normally diligent journalists who made a mistake/had some bad luck. I don’t intentionally abuse vehicles, but I’ve dented and dinged and broken a few things because sometimes shit happens.

What I have not done is use a press car to help flood victims. Nor have I been scolded for doing so, even though the car wasn’t apparently damaged.

As Harvey Continues Swamping Dealers, Slumping Industry Braces for a Hit

You’ve already noticed an uptick in prices at the pumps, all courtesy of Texas oil refineries shut down by Hurricane Harvey, and further gas price hikes are on the way. However, the stalled storm’s impact on the automotive industry is only just beginning to be felt.

The damage inflicted on the hard-hit Texas coastline and especially in the swamped greater Houston area has the potential to make August a grim month for new car sales, coming in a year that hasn’t been kind to automakers in the United States.

Hurricane Harvey Floods Highways and Stalls Oil Production in Texas

Through Sunday morning, Harvey continued to unleash record levels of rain upon Texas, causing biblical flooding. The situation is so bad that the National Weather Service warned of “additional catastrophic, unprecedented and life threatening flooding” into the next week, and placed flash-flood emergencies for the entirety of Southeast Texas.

Harvey was the strongest storm to hit the United States since 2004 and has already trapped countless individuals, both in their homes and on the road as the rain has turned several major highways into man-made rivers. In some areas, the waterline is high enough to reach streetlights.

Thoughts and Prayers Needed For One of Our Own

“I’m fine. Annabelle’s fine. Tails might be a goner.”

Those of you who have been around this site for more than a calendar year or so no doubt remember our former contributor, Caroline Ellis. Caroline has the good fortune of living in the Palmetto State of South Carolina, which is normally a good thing. This week, however, she isn’t so fortunate. When I saw the news images of floods throughout the State, I texted Caroline to see if all was okay. You can see the text I got back at the top of this post. Annabelle is Caroline’s black lab. Tails is her 2012 Chevrolet Sonic LTZ hatchback.

  • Master Baiter Cells capable of accepting fast charge have been available for years in power tools. You sacrifice energy density in cell designs of that type.
  • 2ACL 500s seem to be decent if one stays on top of maintenance. I test-drove some middle-mileage examples car-shopping for the girlfriend and they made a stronger impression upon me than I expected. Haven't driven an Abarth, but I suspect they were among the best cared for given their enthusiast bent. That said, I recall the Multiair Turbo has some wacky service intervals (i.e. 30k miles for spark plugs), the car as a whole imposes utility and component accessibility challenges as well as fuel economy that's worse than several next-size up cars with comparable power. Interesting, but a terrible value IMO.
  • Kjhkjlhkjhkljh kljhjkhjklhkjh Just looking at the PLUMETING cost of used tesla's (28k for a 3P ex) I contest the ''gubberment'' argument. If anything the gubberment is his BEST AND ONLY ALLY because with the increasing emissions regulation a cheap tesla is a hell of a buy.but as previously stated .. were in a saturated market for EV's right now.
