The Lexus IS Gets Modest Updates for 2024

The Lexus IS is going on a decade without a significant update, and 2024 won’t be any different. Lexus announced changes for the new model year, and they’re limited to new trim and appearance packages.

Lexus is offering F Sport Design and F Sport trims for the IS 300 in 2024. The Design package adds 19-inch wheels and unique styling elements, such as sport pedals and an F Sport steering wheel. The IS 350 is available with a Blackout Package with matte black 19-inch wheels, black mirrors, and dark exterior trim.

Thankfully, the V8-powered IS 500 is sticking around for another year. It’s available with a new Incognito paint color, and Lexus is offering an F Sport Performance package with blue paint, 19-inch wheels, and more. It’s limited to 150 units in North America.

The IS’s powertrains remain unchanged, which means a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder as the base mill in the IS 300. It makes 241 horsepower. The IS 350 gets a 3.5-liter V6 with 311 horsepower, while the IS 500 sees a 5.0-liter V8 with 472 horsepower and 392 pounds of torque.

Pricing for the IS line starts at $41,235 for the RWD IS 300. The range-topping IS 500 F Sport Premium starts at $64,250, and all cars see a $1,150 destination charge tacked on at the bottom line. Buyers can get ahold of the new IS later this fall.

I like the IS500 but the performance level difference between it and a high-$50K version of a Camaro SS or Mustang GT isn't minor. And the cramped interior doesn't do it favors among the sedan crowd. Then Lexus dealers are annoying about it too. So the result is a car serving a very small niche.

Any V8 car in 2024 is appreciated but I do wish Lexus had put the engine in the LS500.

      "As someone who owned a V8 LS460"

The LS500 is not the LS460 though. They made the vehicle more athletic overall but then gave it a lazy engine. IMO, especially on the F-Sport, the 5.0L would be a good match for the current car.

It is unfortunate that the super low-production GSF was the the only time they put the V8 in a car that could carry adult humans in the back seat.

With such a car, I could drive to Cleveland and view the 2024 eclipse.

    (Does it have a sunroof?)

I was checking out the map. Go to Columbus, Dayton, or Indy instead. My boss, who is out of Indy, said NASA was hosting an event at the Speedway. Totality will be just north of Louisville and Cincinnati, so you have options there to head north a few miles. April 8 - I think we're all taking off work!

I'm grateful it still has the V6 and V8 offerings. One less car in the toyota/lexus lineup with turbo, hybrid powertrains is a good thing

IS250 owner here. it's fast enough and if I'm in the back seat I've been drinking (again). I test-drove an IS500, a sweet V-8 with the torque of a freight train. Two drawbacks for the IS500: 1. You take what the dealer gets. 2. Expect at least 10K ADM for what you're told you'll accept.

An IS is a fine two-person highway cruiser; you'll get tired of driving before you get tired. Two people can fit in the back seat for a lunch run or drive to a client's site.

Besides the TouchPad from Hell, the IS is a damn good car. And it'll be a loss if Lexus pulls the plug so they can build more CUVs. They are Lexus smooth and efficient (except the V8...that drinks like a sailor on leave), extremely comfortable seats, and I like the digital dash. Given the BMW 3-series has gotten numbed and softened, and I can't look at the MB dash without wincing, that leaves the A3 and the IS. And that's a tough choice...
