Volvo Teases EV SUV for 2023 Launch

Volvo is currently launching the EX90 electric SUV -- this may explain a sudden influx of social-media posts I've seen from Sweden over the past few days -- and apparently, the brand snuck a news nugget into its presentation.

Well, it wasn't totally sneaky -- CEO Jim Rowan went out of his way to note that viewers should look closely and they'd see a teaser silhouette.

Volvo is saying that it will be transitioning to an all-EV lineup by 2030. We at TTAC have been skeptical that the transition will happen in eight short years, but if it does, this smaller EV SUV could be called the EV60, and Autoblog speculates it could be an XC60 replacement -- or perhaps a separate, smaller model.

Volvo will need to fill a lot of size/class niches if it's going to go all EV by 2030 -- or by any year, really -- and an EX60 could nicely fill that bill.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Check out the videos of the headlight operation. It's pretty sweet.

Since the company has been ruined by complex unreliable turbo super charged 4 bangers they might as well go all EV

Put in a reservation for one of these. Wife likes it, I like it, will gamble that by early 2024 when delivery would happen there will be a few more Level 3 chargers along our likely routes.
