QOTD: What State Outline Would Make a Good Racetrack?

Today's QOTD is a weird one, I know, but my brain works in weird ways sometimes.

Over the weekend, I was walking into the grocery store when I saw a fellow customer wearing a T-shirt that had something to do with New Jersey and had the Garden State outlined on it. Maybe it's because I'd just been trying to learn Laguna Seca last week, but at a glance I thought it was a racetrack map before realizing it was a graphic of Tony Soprano's homeland.

Anyway, I got to thinking -- if you took the outlines of the 50 states, could any be translated into a racetrack shape? I think Jersey could, obviously, but beyond that, I don't know. Some obviously wouldn't work, like Hawaii, since it's, you know, islands. States like Wyoming or Colorado would be too boring. But a few might work.

Is this a crazy question, or did someone spike my coffee with something? If it's not crazy, what states would work?

Sound off below.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.
