QOTD: What Makes You Nervous?

Yesterday, I had to haul a bathroom vanity from my folks' house to mine, a drive of about 50 miles. This vanity is a new one, still in the box, and that box partially blocked my view when looking in the rearview mirror of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV I am testing.

Thanks to the sideview mirrors, the blind-spot warning system, and some old-fashioned common sense and caution, I managed the drive home (a mix of suburban surface streets, rural two-lane, and freeway) just fine. But I found myself a bit thrown off by the mirror being partially blocked. This is something I've experienced many times over the years when hauling goods/moving/helping someone move -- I get nervous when the rearview is blocked.

So, what common (or common-ish) driving maneuver makes you nervous when you're the one doing it? Having cargo block your mirror? Towing? Loud passengers? Trying to navigate to a new place? Something else? Keep this to what makes you nervous when YOU'RE doing it -- not when others are.

Sound off below.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

Two things, merging left in the dark and rain and driving into the sun in the morning or evening. I'd rather drive in full daylight or full dark.

I don't feel so bad now. I thought this site would be full of road warriors like my dad was. He could drive out '64 Custom 289 three speed like a sports car. That must've been a hot combination then. I didn't inherit that gene. It skipped me.

Auto insurance renewal every six months.

Ten year old car, good driving record, own my own home, excellent credit score, no teenagers on the policy, etc, etc, etc.

Yet, I pay thru the nose!!!!!

Adds on the morning news brag about $500k settlements.

I paid less when I lived in New York State.

Kind of a weird thing that probably only bothers me, but when you see someone driving a car with ball joints clearly about to fail. I really don't want to be around a car with massive negative camber that's not intentional.
