Japan’s Mag-X got their first look at the new Honda S660, successor to the Beat sports car, at an event in Hokkaido. Also spied in the background, a camo’d Civic Type-R.

Like the Beat, the S660 will use a 660-cc engine producing 63 horsepower and 77 lb-ft, with a CVT or 6-speed manual putting power to the ground. Curb weight will be between 1,830 lbs and will get up to 2,116 lbs. Those looking for a speed demon should examine other options.

i had a beat in 1995/6. enjoyed ripping it around, mostly in shizuoka-shi. it was a gutless and poor handling machine. the gutlessness mostly kept me outta trouble but had a couple episodes of brown trousers time descending some of the twisty roads in the japanese alps. still, the car was as cute as a button and i loved every minute of it. this new version is about as cute and just as welcome. please continue, mr honda. and no, it really doesn't belong on american roads.

Yeah, cute and all that, but a Kei special and not much else. Where is the One concept Honda? That looked like something that could turn into a "real" car and be sold in most of the developing world fine.

  • SCE to AUX Figure 160 miles EPA if it came here, minus the usual deductions. It would be a dud in the US market.
  • Analoggrotto EV9 sales are rivalling the Grand Highlander's and this is a super high eATP vehicle with awesome MSRPs. Toyota will need to do more than compete with a brand who has major equity and support from the automotive journalism community. The 3 row game belongs to HMC with the Telluride commanding major marketshare leaps this year even in it's 5th hallowed year of ultra competitive sales.
  • Analoggrotto Probably drives better than Cprescott
  • Doug brockman I havent tried the Honda but my 2023 RAV4 is great. I had a model 20 years ago which. Was way too little
  • Master Baiter The picture is of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle.
