Last week in New York, I sat down with Brian Moody, the executive editor at AutoTrader, to discuss what was going in Manhattan at the 2024 New York Auto Show.

One of my favorite little nuggets of irony is that the Hell's Kitchen area of Manhattan is actually very well-to-do. It's not anything like any commonly imagined vision of hell, unless your vision of hell consists of yuppies, puppies, and way too many people.

Over the past week we've seen 2024 New York Auto show debuts from Infiniti, Nissan, Genesis, Hyundai, Mini, and Kia.

Which one has you thinking about heading to the dealer?

There are a handful of models that change so slowly that it’s almost imperceptible, leaving you with the impression that they might have never changed at all. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class could probably serve as the poster child for this phenomenon and has recently undergone another round of subtle tweaks for the 2025 model year. However, this is actually one of the more comprehensive updates the G-Wagen has seen between generations.

Mini has released the 2025 Mini Cooper Hardtop, specifically the performance variant that’s likely to appeal to enthusiasts that aren’t interested in the hardcore John Cooper Works version. The manufacturer is reviewing the model at the New York auto show this week and looks to have kept the car that’s slated for sale in North America quite close to its European counterpart — with a few exceptions.

NEW YORK -- Hyundai kicked off the 2024 New York International Auto Show by dropping the new Tucson and a refreshed Santa Cruz minitruck.

Tomorrow is the press/media day for the 2024 New York Auto Show. My rear end is currently parked behind a desk in my Midtown/Times Square hotel, which means I will be at the Jacob Javits Center tomorrow.

In recent years, auto shows haven’t been the exciting showcases of new vehicles they once were, but this year’s New York International Auto Show has already seen a few compelling concept vehicles. Genesis took the opportunity to show off a pair of SUV concepts, including a sleek electric model and a performance SUV from a new sub-brand called Magma.

The headline says it all -- these are some photos I snapped while wandering the show floor in New York Wednesday and Thursday.

For better or worse, a lot of people in this business on all sides (journalist, analyst, PR, pundit) tend to use any given auto show's press conference schedule, along with the type of debuts that occur/news that is made, as a metric for the health of the industry.

The 2023 New York Auto Show is wrapping up and we're wondering -- what car was the star of the show for you?

One of the challenges of EV adoption is range, or lack thereof. But as the technology improves, range gets closer and closer to what's offered by internal-combustion vehicles.
