Jaguar XFR-S Is Obnoxiously Blue: 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show

The Jaguar XKR-S must be self-destructive. The elegant lines of the XF and the awesome 550-horsepower supercharged V8 are marred by the retina-searing blue paint and the tuner-esque spoiler on the rear. Can that be deleted? If so, I’ll take one in black.

Actually that stupid carbon fiber spoiler (how early-mid 00's!) is a $$$$ option. The standard decklid integrated one is much more discrete. And yes, you can get it in a few other colors - make mine the dark grey/ gun metal-ish. It looks sweet! p.s: The funny thing is that it's about £20000 cheaper here in the U.S. compared to the U.K. where it's actually built! And we get everything included, those poor suckers even have to pay for things like voice interactive control! Talk about a rip-off!

Looks like the marketing department did a great job here, it got you talking about it and raising some awareness. There is no such thing as bad publicity. If the car was silver or black without the wing, most likely you would not have posted a story about it. Will they sell many blue ones? Probably not. Will they sell some in a different color due to the infinitesmally small extra bit of publicity the blue car put out there? Most likely yes. Did it cost them an extra dime for the publicity? No.

My issue with this car is not with the looks--I like them a lot. It's with the perception this car brings. We're all car enthusiasts and we can tell the difference between this and, say, a Holden Commodore/Pontiac V8/Vauxhall Vectra. But others, like those in Jaguar's customer-base, may not see such a difference and may forego the car--and Jaguar--altogether. I think the most promising product for Jaguar's young-but-old media campaign is the new F-Type...
