In April, everybody who walked by the FAW display at the Beijing Auto Show, yours truly included, did a double-take and took a lot of pictures upon seeing their Red Flag CA7600L monstrosity. It was a huge crowd magnet, and everybody walked away, muttering: “They’ll never build THAT.” Boy was everybody wrong.
Gasgoo says FAW is now “seriously considering” to produce the Red Flag CA7600L limousine.
It’s a monster. Gasgoo has it at over 251-inches long, 79-inches wide, 67-inches tall, and with a 153-inch wheelbase. The car ( if you can call it that) weighs-in at nearly 6000 lbs. It is powered by a 6.0-liter V-12 engine that makes 402 hp. According to Gasgoo, the thing will be priced at 4 million yuan ($58,500, they say). If that’s true (I doubt it) then I’m the first one in my building to buy one, if only for shits and giggles. Anybody else? We probably can organize a group buy. It doubt it will have problems with crash tests. The hood ornaments would probably make it flunk ECE requirements for pedestrian protection.
It’s the Bizarro Toyota Century!
According to Gasgoo, the thing will be priced at 4 million yuan ($59,000)
It’s certainly a lot of car for the money.
I can’t stop looking at that thing, for better and worse…it’ll sell very, very well at just about any price.
I’m in for the group buy
the thing will be priced at 4 million yuan ($59,000)

Bertel, you sure you been to China?
Ever did USD/RMB exchange?
Bertle just slipped a decimal place.
If you type “yuan” into google it gives you an exchange rate calculator.
4 million RMB + $590,536.
I am in China, and I know my exchange rates. I simply wrote what Gasgoo says it would cost in dollars ….
Can’t get far with subtlety in this crowd. Ok, I made it a bit more obvious … (Btw, the Google search is “convert 4000000 CNY to USD”.)
At $59K, they may have an alternative to the Equus for those who want bizarre styling over bland. At $590K they are out of their Mao-forsaken minds. Then again, this is probably going to be China market only, and if the last year has taught us anything, it’s that the Chinese are ready to buy anything with four wheels regardless of cost. It makes sense for FAW to get in on the fad while it’s still strong.
Bertel: My apologies. Gasgoo is the party with the arithmetic problem. Which is it 4,000,000 RMB or $58,500 worth of RMB?
If they do a short wheelbase (oh, say, 127-130 inches) convertible, sign me up. Seriously, I kind of like it. But then, I am a big fan of 60s Chryslers, Checker Marathons and International Travelalls.
Ah, the replacement for my Crown Vic. I think I’ll wait and try to get one off-lease, though. Fifty-nine big is a little rich for Uncle Fritzy.
Finally ZIL gets some competition in the cold war limo market.
Twotone
Is it a Lincoln? I mean check out the chrome cheese grater on the front!
Actually it’s more tastefull.
very odd look. Not sure if it wants to be a Limo, an 80’s Jaguar, or a 60’s Lincoln.
The front looks very much like a 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II. Not necessarily a bad model to copy.
Its the Front of a Gaz 21 grafted to the back of a Rolls Royce Phantom. I can’t see how anything could go wrong.
Good call. Definitely not GAZ 13 or ZiL 111 as other commenters alluded.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRTTH5HW6GQ in action!
Give FAW and other Chinese automakers some time. Just like it took the Japanese and Koreans years/decades to start making good looking designs (not copies) on their own, the Chinese will have that same learning curve. I predict that in about 10-20 years time, the designs will most likely improve. I think this car will sell, not in spite of it’s weird looks, but because of it. At least it’s different in our modern world of clone cars.
Mr Schmitt check TheTyco… sadly it won’t have that front end.
And that guy says it’s aprobado
Tyco is my buddy. We have a beer once in a while in Beijing ….
:) Tell him he’s being read from Venezuela
DEfinitely a Soviet look to that thing. Like what our late cold war adversaries might have produced had they made it into the new millenium, with the oil money that followed.
Zil, as Twotone says.
I like the thing (conceding that it may be awful in person–I don’t think I’m quite appreciating the scale from the photos). But it has real eyes, a real face. That counts for a lot these days.
Enough already with ZiL! Front end looks like GAZ-21 Volga. Here’s picture of it: http://mygaz21i.narod.ru/maingaz21.JPG
Those headlights made me think of a Bentley Mulsanne right away.
the 6.0 litre V12, do I smell it came from Daimler?
Middle Kingdom do need some big long Limo to carry their own dignitaries around, they have been building limos long since the days of tricky Dick Nixon visits.
Then I heard one time one of these Limo died caused alot of grief & embarassment to their own dignitaries infront of foreign folks. SO they had to switch to foreign limos again.
During the 60s a lot of Mercs were being stolen north to Middle Kingdom from HK. Late 80s was even more rampant they build these big speed boats wide enuf to put a couple of 560sel side by side in the back, with 6 or 8 large powerful outboards they can skim across the channel/border in record time, even a copter could stop them. That was really going just before the 97 took over.
Now although HK and Middle Kingdom has different Law but rule by same country, certain crime if get caught up North u receive a much more raw deal than being tried in HK. At least if u ever did someone in HK u get life sentence, if in Middle Kingdom u get to eat the bullet.
Reminds me of how Stock car racing were born, these folks be racing speed boats on Lakes or
Monte Carlo.
This is just a bit longer overall and in the wheelbase than a ’76 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 Limo. I want one.
Its a gigantic Chevy Vega with a Mercury grille!
A Checker for the new millennium. Two words for success: Airport Limo.
I’ve been to China. No one there has any taste. What do you expect?
I actually saw kitchen hoods in pastels. A purple stove exhaust hood. Really.
it’s not like the styling is anything new. It’s the “we can too” mentality.
This is very similar to Ford Raptor 6.2 in price, size, power and weight. Except I would actually love to buy it! AWESOME!
I like it. Every car should be just like this. And wonderfully, under the Dictatorship of the Proletariat, every car WILL be just like it.
Right. Too bad the dictatorship of the proletariat never made it. Otherwise we’d all be driving those cars. So it’s back to Buick and QQ.
Oh, darn. Back to Buick, eh? Well, OK, I like Chinese Buicks, too.
I thought they already built it:
I want one. I want one. I want one!!!!!!!!!! It’s beautiful. 6.0 V12? Is that an in house design? It’s like a Rolls Royce Phantom!
