Gallery: Looking Back at Buick
Last month's news that almost half of Buick dealers took buyouts -- mostly dealers that seemed uninterested in investing in an electric-car future -- probably set off some alarm bells among any remaining Buick aficionados out there.
Personally, I don't think the brand is doomed -- there is a tendency among certain segments of automotive enthusiasts and automotive press (this site once started death watches) to think the worse just because one bad thing happens. Never mind that context matters, and that it's not a given that a bad occurrence will be followed by something even worse.
All that said, today's Buick collection of crossovers is a far cry from its past as luxury brand with the occasional foray into performance. It's a far cry from the comfortmobiles I grew up with. Taking a spin through the GM heritage Web site reminded me of Buick's interesting past.
I snagged a select few photos for your perusing pleasure. Expect more to come from this feature and various automakers' heritage collections. You can see the entire Buick collection here.
