2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer and Tracker Prepare for Shanghai

General Motors plans on giving attendees of Auto Shanghai a crossover-themed enema later this month. Buick will introduce the second-generation Encore, as well as its larger GX variant, while Chevrolet focuses on the 2020 Trailblazer and Tracker.

While both models have vanished in the United States, replaced with the more tersely named Traverse and Trax, the Trailblazer and Tracker persist in Asia, Australia, and parts of South America. GM plans on debuting new editions of the pair in Shanghai on April 16th and has issued a teaser image (above) as a reminder — just like it did with the Encore.

Junkyard Treasure: 1993 Geo Tracker, Illinois Rust Edition
When The General created the Geo brand in 1989, the idea was that cars designed and/or built by Toyota, Isuzu, and Suzuki could be sold in the United States under the GM flag (Geos became Chevrolets after 1997). Of all the cars that bore Geo badging, the Tracker stayed in production the longest, when a Suzuki Grand Vitara-based Chevy Tracker could be purchased through 2004.Here’s a frighteningly corroded 1993 Geo Tracker, spotted in a self-service wrecking yard in Joliet, Illinois.

Jimny Crickets: Suzuki Finally Readies Fourth Generation of Its Little Off-Roader

Suzuki’s automotive division may have retreated from the American landscape, but it left a lasting impression. While not overabundant in goodness, it did have a few bright spots and the Jimny was one of them. Of course, not everyone will recognize the name. But they’ll know the vehicle, even if they don’t realize it.

While the Jimny and Vitara (also known as the Escudo) have grown apart in more recent years, there was a time when the duo was responsible a multitude of incredibly small off-road vehicles sold in North America. You know them as the Suzuki Sidekick, Suzuki Samurai, Chevrolet/Geo Tracker, and Pontiac Sunrunner (if you’re Canadian). They’ve had other names in other parts of the world but, regardless of where they were sold, the models were usually the cheapest way to hurl a small vehicle at some rocks.

This remained true for the Jimny, even as the Vitara evolved into a crossover and distanced itself from the wild modifications of dirt-obsessed enthusiast. Unfortunately, that left the Jimny stuck in its third generation since 1998. That’s twenty years of the same car, but Suzuki says the new model is just about ready.

Junkyard Find: 2001 Chevrolet Tracker ZR-2

The second-gen Chevrolet Tracker, a badge-engineered version of the Suzuki Vitara and the descendent of the Geo Tracker Suzuki Sidekick sibling, was sold all over the world with many nameplates. It was never much of a big seller in the United States, so this ZR-2 is an unusual Junkyard Find.

Someday, GM Will Own the Streets of Hanoi!

During my visit to Vietnam last month, I photographed many Honda Super Cubs, but I always kept one eye open for other interesting vehicles. I spotted a few Toyota Crown Royal Saloons, which was cool, but catching a Geo Chevrolet Tracker at a Hanoi intersection was one of the weirder sightings. Studying the photograph later, I realized that three of the four (non-two-wheeled) vehicles in the frame were GM products that show the breadth of The General’s Asian empire.

  • Donald This is what happens when you make your wife CFO. This is all the result of accounting problems. And could’ve been avoided with a reserve of liquidy.
  • Rochester When I was young, a number of girls I dated wanted to own a Jeep. I didn't understand (and don't like them myself), but it was certainly something. So good for Jeep leaning into that.

Now, Tesla is coming around and biting him on the arse!!In the car business, you need to keep you finger on the pulse. Momentum will only carry you so far. If in doubt, think Lordstown and Fisker. He thinks technology will solve his problems. However, Telsa has moved from premier product to commodity with other manufacturers entering his exclusive domain. Time for Elon to fly back to Tesla HQ and come up with a long term plan. 🚗🚗🚗
  • Irvingklaws Anymore seems I want a color that is not black, white, red, or some shade of silver/gray. Though I coveted them when I was younger, I also seem to have developed an aversion to all-black interiors. I have a deep negative reaction to any vehicle identifying as "triple black". Don't even get me started on black wheels...I'm not the only one. We're looking to replace my wife's silver CX-5 and one of her few non-negotiable prerequisites is that it be "a color" not in the aforementioned list. It's looking like a Cascade Green Forester with a light gray interior is in her future.
