Used Car of the Day: 2002 Honda Accord Coupe

I'm a sucker for a good Honda Accord coupe -- even owned a '97 for a while -- and this 2002 Honda Accord Coupe reminds me of how cool these cars could be.

This LX V6 isn't perfect -- it's an automatic, boo -- but the seller claims it has been well maintained.

The mileage is hot at 246K, and the seller claims there are no leaks. The battery is new and the car runs synthetic oil.

If this kind of Honda tickles your fancy, it's based in L.A. and the price is $4,200. Click here for more.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

If you can trade out 2 of those cylinders for 2 more doors, maybe.

I had a same generation 4 door 4 cylinder. I bought it past the end of its useful life as a winter beater at a down point in my life. Despite its numerous problems from neglect, road salt and previous crashes it always started and got me where I needed to go. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another manual of that era. Haven't heard great things about the autos so would probably pass on those.

A good car, but the price is a touch too high and that interior is disgusting. As others have pointed out, this Accord was produced in the midst of the defective automatic transmission era for Acura and Honda. If the fluid sample you get on the dipstick is dirty, walk away.

  • Redapple2 Subaru Forester is the only small SUV to earn a good rating in the updated test.As I have said 10 times. Class best resale, safety, quality, features, outward visibility, All wheel drive system, and a 9 square foot sunroof -hate all you want. clearly the best. Two others, the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, are rated acceptable. The Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass earn marginal ratings, while the Chevrolet Equinox, Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander and Volkswagen Taos are all rated poor and poor, deadly, unacceptable. Add in low mount low light producing headlamps and......... kill away.
  • Kwik_Shift_Pro4X I prefer the "Classic" look along with getting a reg cab, RWD with 8ft bed and 5.7 V8.
  • Redapple2 I like the classic ram. Kinda like vinyl vs CD. Low cost. Low frills. Low bs. Simple controls.
  • MKizzy A price bump? Give it a couple of bad months + an unpredictable Musk mood swing and the M3 Performance could be selling at Altima prices.
  • ToolGuy I don't think it is fair that the other car companies have to compete with VW.
