Used Car of the Day: 1994 Mazda B2300

Today we bring you a fun relic of 1990s corporate synergy -- this 1994 Mazda B2300 pickup truck.

For sale somewhere around Rockford, Illinois for $5,000, this bad boy has a five-speed manual transmission, six-foot bed, and regular cab. It's apparently been maintained well, too.

There are 230K miles on it, but the brakes, tires, clutch, bed cover, window rain guards, and suspension are all apparently new or new-ish.

This one does NOT have power steering or air conditioning.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

I owned a 1984 Ranger regular cab long box 4x4. 2.8 V6, 5 speed manual, LSD rear. .... I wouldn't want another unless it was powered by a Coyote and had Dana 44's front and back on 37's ;)

I owned a 93 compact Toytota. Bought new after looking at used as the resale value was so stupid high on Toy trucks at the time that new was the only way to go. V6, extended cab & 4WD were the only way to option these small trucks so they had some capability/utility. One optioned like this Mazda is pretty useless.

  • Ava169189168 NO driver, at any age, should get a license without completing a Driver's Ed course.
  • Golden2husky My HS friend's family had a Wagoneer. These SUVs, plus the next gen that replaced it, were very much front and center in affluent neighborhoods. They were a tough as an anvil, and about as sophisticated. What this poor truck was put through was a testament to how rugged it was. We needed the "emergency" switch in the glove box on more than one occasion to get moving. Sadly, he flipped it in a parking lot - going fast in reverse and cutting the wheel hard. Tons of tire squealing, then silence. It's over so I thought until we landed on the roof and front of hood. I watched the windshield shatter and we ended up on our side. Stupid things kids will do. The Wagoneer took on a decidedly TR-7 look after the rollover.
  • Michael S6 I learned how to drive a manual on a Ford Pinto that my roommate had in grad school. It was not a very reliable car but not worse than my Cutlass.
