Toyota surprised everyone with the return of the Land Cruiser, and by all accounts, this new model is poised to become an instant classic. And while plenty of info was released about this iconic off-roader, we’re sure you have plenty of questions.

So we’re going to get you the answers!

To the engineer at Toyota;

What is the repair for the 3.3 V6 turbo diesel's excessive oil consumption. I have heard every two to three thousand kilometres it needs nearly two litres of oil?

I think this is unsatisfactory for Landcruiser in the new 300 Series.

  If they really gave a damn about it they would design a new inline 6 diesel to replace everything.

What’s the expected lifespan of the hybrid powertrain? Will the hybrid powertrain be as long lived and maintainable as previous Land Cruiser powertrains?

The Land Cruiser model is largely expected to last reliably 20+ years and 200,000+ miles. Are these milestones possible with the hybrid?

  Given Toyota's past record with each, I'd be more worried about the turbo engine than the hybrid system behind it. This is the same company that has Priuses and Camry Hybrids still plugging away after half a million miles as New York City taxis.

  Toyota has been making turbos at least as far back as the T and 22R series in the 70s and 80s. They should do better than this.

  The Prius has a reputation for a very long life; no reason this would not follow suit.

  V35A reliability is yet to be proven. Not sure about 8AR either.

  The HybridMax and IForceMax aren't the same systems as what you get in a Prius or Camry hybrid. I like how the HM system drives but I wouldn't trust it until there's some new data on it.

  This is not a V35A, it's a T24A. Pretty new engine so stuff could still develop, but it's been put into an awful lot of Highlanders and RX350s already without any reports of major trouble so far.

  Only mentioning V35A as it and 8AR are the next recent turbocharged Toyota engines with several years of service. I hope the V35A is reliable by now, with the wastegate actuator issue resolved, I drove an LS500 and really enjoyed the engine along with the rest of the vehicle it's no ATP-Master Genesis but I'd still go w/ the Lexus.
