Toyota Tacoma Fuel Economy Numbers Confirmed by Canadian Ratings Agency

The all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma is starting to land on dealers’ lots, but the EPA hasn’t released fuel economy figures for the truck. Natural Resources Canada has posted its estimates, however, and they’re in line with the numbers seen on window stickers in the United States.

The Canadians estimated that the six-speed manual transmission-equipped Tacoma returns 18/23/20 mpg city/highway/combined, while variants with the eight-speed automatic return 19/25/21. Toyota claims the new truck’s most efficient configuration is the 4x2 with an automatic transmission, which returns up to 21/26/23 mpg.

There are variations on those numbers depending on the configuration, but they’re both better than anything the 2023 Tacoma could offer. Its most efficient setup included two-wheel drive and the four-cylinder engine, which only netted 20/23/21 mpg. It’s worth noting that the numbers could change slightly when reviewed by the EPA, but they’re in line with the numbers Toyota claims for each model.

The new Tacoma lost the V6 engine option, but its two remaining four-cylinder options make better companions for the truck in all situations. The base engine configuration makes 228 horsepower and 243 pounds of torque, while other trims see higher output of 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. The available hybrid powertrain steps up to 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque.

(Small vs giant) Since the $ diff isnt much, the MPG better be much better. Or else, i ll just get a jumbo. I ll join the club of the pig up driving scumbags pushing people out of the way.

Would love to see the return of a smaller, extended cab pickup more the size of the 90's Tacoma with modern technology (including BEV versions) rather than these bloated road whales that are almost too big for the roads.
