Infiniti to Release Lexus RX Competitor in 2026 and Push for Electrified Vehicles

The Lexus RX has been a force to be reckoned with in the luxury SUV world for almost three decades. Competitors have come and gone, but the long-running Lexus has remained a solid contender. Infiniti has something to say about that, announcing a new two-row SUV to compete with the RX as part of its push to revamp its product line.

Infiniti said the new QX65 would land in 2026 as a smaller, sportier version of the three-row QX60 SUV. It will use the QX60’s platform and carry the same four-cylinder engine, but it diverges from the QX60’s design with a sleeker, curvier shape.

The automaker is also eying its first electrified vehicle, saying that it’s considering a hybrid crossover based on the Nissan Rogue. Infiniti’s catalog is stale compared to those of competitors like Lexus, leading it to announce a shift to focus on EVs in 2023. Part of that plan involves cutting some nameplates from its lineup, including the QX50 and QX55 in 2026.

Infiniti will also temporarily step out of the sedan segment, as it ended production of the Q50 earlier this year and will discontinue the car after this model year. Its EV push comes as it falls further behind its rivals, many of which have multiple electrified vehicles. That said, Lexus only has one EV on sale now, but its hybrid catalog is extensive.

Every time I see an article about Infiniti (or Nissan, for that matter), I'm shocked they are still even operating anymore.

For the finest ATP curation, please visit your Genesis dealership today. If you like Hyundai's after sales service model you will be absolutely delighted with what the service techs of Genesis have to offer you. Waiting rooms feature real natural gas lighting for industry leading ambiance and a foreboding sense of ATPs.

Are you a Genesis bot? This is the second unapologetic advertisement you have posted about Genesis. This article was not about Genesis...Go away
  • ToolGuy One of those new federally-funded chargers is down the road from me and features 100% fusion energy and there were two of the new mail trucks charging there today along with two Cybertrucks (and an ICE VW with 400,000 miles on the odometer). Also a unicorn and two dragons talking with a leprechaun.
  • Michael S6 Hopefully the humongous windshield does not convergence the sunlight on the sitting duck driver.
  • SCE to AUX I don't know if I've seen one. Mail delivery vehicles come in all shapes and sizes, and they're all pretty invisible to me. Besides, they're competing with the Amazon, FedEx, and UPS trucks that go through my neighborhood several times a day.
  • SCE to AUX "there’s not a lot of evidence to suggest that all-electric vehicles are going to outpace traditional internal combustion models in popularity" With ICE market share falling and EV share gaining, I'd say there is evidence.
  • SCE to AUX I'd be very wary of a business plan built on a loophole that could be closed with an executive order. Just vertically integrate like Tesla did with the Gigafactory in Sparks, NV.
