GM Files For Trademarks For Four Cadillac Celestiq Trims

General Motors has filed for four trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark office.

The trademarks are believed to be related to trim-level names for the upcoming Cadillac Celestiq EV.

The trademarks have been filed for Celestiq Aurora, Celestiq Magentic, Celestiq Mist, and Celestiq Vale.

That order appears to be alphabetical and not indicative of which trim level will be the base, which one will be the top, and which two will sit in between. Those who remember the '90s might make an association, however loose, with the Oldsmobile Aurora that GM sold back then.

As for us, we're just glad to see Cadillac getting somewhat away from alphanumeric nomenclature, even if Celestiq is still a sillier name than DeVille or El Dorado.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

    No words.

This car is so fugly. And at $300,000, it will be a massive fail at this price.

Also, PS-nobody is buying cars. It s now shifted to SUV

You're right, and Cadillac is also doing a SUV (the Lyriq). Problem is, they've used the same awful rear-end styling theme on that car as well. I bet both fail.

"GM Files for..." Okay, who else mentally filled in "Bankruptcy?"

At least the filing wasn't for alphanumeric gibberish. Just alpha gibberish.

This car looks terrific from the front. Then we have the back end...

I don't think the "very expensive halo car" approach is a bad one at all (though I'd price this a LOT lower than $300,000), but the "ugly $300,000 halo car" approach is going to fail. And I think the Lyriq - which has the same horrid rear-end treatment - is going to fail too.

Is it too late to restyle this car? God, I hope not.
