Remember when we reported, two weeks ago, that Tesla-partner Panasonic is betting big on the laptop battery idea, with the first batch of batteries going to Japanese start-up Zerosports? Well, they won’t. Zerosports is dead.

As a reminder of the fickleness of any business based solely on EVs, Zerosports announced today that it will file for voluntary bankruptcy, The Nikkei [sub] reports.

The reason: Zerosport’s biggest customer, Japan Post Service Co., canceled its order for 1,030 EVs, worth about 3.5 billion yen ($42.7 million). Zerosports has liabilities of about 1.1 billion yen ($13.4 million).

Th order was withdrawn because of possible delivery delays. Japan Post Service still intends to deploy EVs. Probably from a more established vendor.

I'm thinking that TTAC (and others) should probably save that headline. Might not be too long before you can paste in "Coda" and reuse it.

  • Lou_BC Was he at GM for 47 years or an engineer for 47 years?
  • Ajla The VW vote that was held today heavily favored unionization (75/25). That's a very large victory for the UAW considering such a vote has failed two other times this decade at that plant.
  • The Oracle Just advertise ICE vehicles by range instead of MPG and let the market decide.
  • Lou_BC Collective bargaining provides workers with the ability to counter a rather one-sided relationship. Let them exercise their democratic right to vote. I found it interesting that Conservative leaders were against unionization. The fear there stems from unions preferring left leaning political parties. Wouldn't a "populist" party favour unionization?
