Mental Health Break: Pagani Zonda R Breaks The 'ring Record

Since we’re neck-deep in sales numbers today, here’s something delightfully frivolous to break up the seriousness: a few sights and sounds from the Pagani Zonda R breaking the Ferrari 599XX’s “production derived” Nürburgring record. And while you shiver in delight at the Zonda’s shrieks echoing through the Eifel forests like the howls of a wounded wild beast, remember this: Pagani didn’t even show a car in concept form until 1999. Tesla shouldn’t be trying to be the next Apple or Google, they should be taking notes from these guys.

Oh man, gives me chills. I think I need to change my shorts.

Another senseless "record". At least this time, the car looks rather nice.

Calling any Pagani "production" stretches the term past any meaningful breaking point. With the total number of all variations ever built barely breaking into 3 figures (wikipedia says 106 and 112 in the same article), these are not "production" cars. They're fullsized handbuilt customized motorized toys. Glorious customized motorized toys to be sure. But not "production" cars.

Production defined: Someone builds it, someone buys it. Voila, it's a production car. Doesn't matter if it's one or one million units. Of course, the 599XX and Zonda R are specially prepared and owned by the companies that make them... so they're simply "production derived". Neat trick, that.
