Yes, he did. Numan used to run around London in a white Corvette. He is also an accomplished airplane pilot. The main reason mainstream British musicians disliked Gary Numan was because his politics were very conservative and he loved to flaunt his wealth and success. Numan was a one-hit wonder in the U.S., but he had a long, successful career in Britain.
OMG - you've taken me back. With Kraftwerk's Autobahn (1974), Numan (1979) and a couple of others I remember them as more European thoughts about THE CAR.
That was a good one hit wonder song.
