GM To Temporarily Halt Production of Cruise Origin Van

General Motors recently announced a pause on all autonomous vehicle operations after several high-profile accidents, one including a pedestrian. Automotive News reported that the automaker is also halting production of the Cruise Origin Van.

$2.2 Billion in Funding, Rolling Toaster Bound for GM's Detroit-Hamtramck Plant

With just days left before the last Cadillac CT6 and Chevrolet Impala sedans roll off the assembly line at General Motors’ Detroit-Hamtramck plant, the automaker has put up funding for the facility’s future.

For the once endangered plant, it will be a future free of gas-powered cars and trucks. Instead, the sprawling facility will be home to a range of electric SUVs and trucks, one of them bearing the Hummer name, and a rolling box with no driver.

Did General Motors’ self-driving arm reveal the future on Tuesday night? The automaker and its Cruise LLC subsidiary sure hope so, as both see big, big dollars coming from future autonomous ridesharing fleets.

The Cruise Origin unveiled in San Francisco last night is supposedly the vehicle (don’t call it a car) that will make that revenue stream possible. It certainly doesn’t look like a car, and the difference grows even greater when those side doors part.

  • Dwford There's plenty of time between now and 2030-35 to design and sell through a whole new generation of ICE vehicles, if not 2 generations. Chevy seems to be on a dual track plan with ICE and EV versions of the Equinox and Blazer nameplates. No reason Cadillac can't do something similar.

Total coincidence, just happened that the used cars we found that met our requirements (ie: manual trans and at least some amount of character) both happened to be orange. My previous daily driver was orange as well, again total coincidence...they just seem to find us I guess...
