Not for Americans: Ford Just Revealed Two Electrified Bronco Models

Ford equips the electric Bronco with a 105.4 kWh battery, while the EREV variant will offer a 43.7 kWh battery and an 800-mile combined driving range. The vehicles will be built in China by Jiangling Ford, but they are both exclusive to the Chinese market.

While they look like Broncos, the electrified SUVs take more styling elements from the smaller Bronco Sport. That said, they are larger than both gas Broncos on sale in the U.S., and the curb weights for the EV reach 5,800 pounds.

The vehicles were revealed in documents filed with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which also noted a new advanced driver-assistance system that uses LiDAR sensors on the front of the vehicle. We haven’t heard much about the technology, but it could be the fabled Level 3 autonomous driving tech that Ford has teased several times now.

Pricing for the new SUVs has not yet been announced, but Ford said the Bronco New Energy EV and EREV will go on sale in China later this year. Given the China-specific design and underlying technology, we’re unlikely to see either vehicle in the States, especially with steep tariffs in place.

Americans don't deserve the greatness that is modern Ford. (Look at the "coffee" many Americans drink.)

  • Dave M. The lead picture has it exactly right - Mazda Miata. In my adulthood I've always had the privilege of a "play car", ranging from an Audi 5000 to a Rambler American to a Dodge Omni GLH to my current Saab. The kid and I were at the auto show this weekend and we sat in the Miata - I told her when I'm gone, ditch the Saab for a Miata since it's a good size fit for her (I look like Dino from the Flintstones in it). She wants the manual of course, something I helped her learn on the Saab. The kid is gonna do alright...
