See the Chevrolet Blazer EV.R -- and the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
With the Daytona 500 this weekend, Chevrolet unveiled an electric NASCAR prototype called the Blazer EV.R.
The vehicle is NOT meant to replace the Camaro in NASCAR -- it appears the Camaro body will remain in the Cup series for several years to come. This is merely a test bed -- albeit one with over 1,300 horsepower from three six-phase electric motors and a 78-kWh liquid-cooled battery. It has all-wheel drive.
NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Justin Allgaier tested it and pointed out that without the sound of engine revs, he had to readjust how he listens to the vehicle in order to judge corner entry speed. There was also the challenge of adjusting to how regenerative braking affects cornering.
Meanwhile, Chevrolet has also been making news with the Corvette ZR1. That car set lap records at five American tracks -- Road America, Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen, and two of the five layouts of Virginia International Raceway.
