Haul Yeah: 5 Used Pickup Trucks for Less than $10K
Rounding out the price theme for this week’s litany of posts in our new series, we turn to a style of vehicle familiar to every single red-blooded American - the pickup truck. It is safe to say, without question or shadow of a doubt, that just about every single one of the B&B has either owned, ridden in, or worked on a pickup truck at some point in their lives. That’s the level of ubiquity these things have in our country.
Trying to find a reasonably priced example which hasn’t been knacked into oblivion can be a tall task. For reasons which should be abundantly clear, pickup trucks might have humble origins but tend to hang onto their resale value - especially if it’s loaded with a desirable powertrain or cab/box configuration. Good luck trying to get deals on a V8-equipped regular cab short box with four-wheel drive and a stickshift from any brand, though we’re certainly going to try.
While these lists are arbitrary examples of machines we find around the internet, we’re going to see if we can spread the love around a little bit on a Friday and try to source at least one from each of the Detroit Three. Anything less would be unAmerican.
Ed. note -- These are examples currently for sale, but think of the model years as ones that can be easily found on the lower end of the price scale.

2020 Chevrolet Colorado WT - $9,888
It turns out one can absolutely get a pickup truck from this decade for just four figures - so long as ya don’t mind a four-banger engine and refrigerator white paint. The great thing about the Colorado by this stage in the game is that economies of scale mean even the base work trucks get A/C, a decent stereo, and cruise control. Don’t be put off by the extended cab since full four door crew cabs were equally cramped if the driver was anything over six feet tall.
2019 Ford F-150 XL - $9,792
Here’s the big daddy of truck sales. The mighty F-Series has been atop the charts since Adam was an oakum picker, though Blue Oval rivals like to point out GM is split across two brands. Whatever. This one is grandpa spec in terms of cab/box and powertrain configuration but it shows well in Retail Red despite high mileage on a V6 engine that’ll admittedly outlive us all.
2013 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman - $9,965
It doesn’t matter this truck is over a decade old; after all, it looks exactly like the one they sold brand new up until about this time last year. In fact, the Ram dealer in your author’s town still has plenty on the lot. This one has the Hemi, four-wheel drive, and by ‘13 they had the good sense to upgrade the interior to install a modern Uconnect and other tech toys.
2008 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner - $9,995
Remember the missive above about regular cab, short box, 4x4, and a stick? Well, to paraphrase Meatloaf, three out of four ain’t bad, especially when it’s in reference to GMT400. This era of Chevy is arguably one of if not the best-looking trucks ever to come out of Detroit thanks to great proportions and handsome square-jaw styling. We’re not sure about the asking price on this one relative to its mileage - but just look at the thing.
1994 Chevrolet 1500 - $8,995
Remember the missive above about regular cab, short box, 4x4, and a stick?
