Used Car of the Day: 1992 BMW 535i

Today we serve up a heavily modified 1992 BMW 535i.

This is apparently a "hobby" car that has never been driven in the winter and has been garage-kept.

Mods include the camshaft, exhaust manifold and exhaust system (including the muffler), wheels, and radiator fan. There's a Bilstein suspension, launch control, Konig seats, and Alpina front and rear spoilers.

Our seller claims 239 horsepower for this stick-shift 535i. I do not see a listed mileage.

Click here to see this Bimmer -- if it strikes your fancy, the asking price is $15,000.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

    [From the OP]

    Mille Miglia 9x17 + 11x17 wheels (cost of rims alone +/- 4000 $)

The stretch on the rears is rather off putting.

  • MaintenanceCosts Can I have the hybrid powertrains and packaging of the RAV4 Hybrid or Prime with the interior materials, design, and build quality of the Mazda?

  • ToolGuy Please allow me to listen to the podcast before commenting. (This is the way my mind works, please forgive me.)
  • ToolGuy My ancient sedan (19 years lol) matches the turbo Mazda 0-60 (on paper) while delivering better highway fuel economy, so let's just say I don't see a compelling reason to 'upgrade' and by the way HOW HAVE ICE POWERTRAIN ENGINEERS BEEN SPENDING THEIR TIME never mind I think I know. 😉
