Video Time: Where One Can Peek Into the Car Ads of the 1990s

I’ve always enjoyed the healthy dose of nostalgia which accompanies old advertisements. This is doubly so when any of them are car-related. The style, the jingles, pricing, long-dead nameplates – it’s all there. And through an accidental YouTube discovery, hundreds are in a single location.

Picture Time: What the Hell Happened to This Town Car?

Browsing on The Facebook recently presented me with an astonishing feat of custom bodywork, one I felt compelled to share in a very special Custom Edition Picture Time Edition of Custom.

It’s a one-off modification of a 2006 Lincoln Town Car, and you need to see it.

Picture Time: Infiniti's Forgotten M30, With a 300ZX Engine

For two years right at the inception of the Infiniti brand, the automaker’s lineup featured an M30 coupe and convertible. Sharing a body with the JDM Nissan Leopard, under the hood lay the VG30 engine from the delightful Nissan 300ZX.

This one’s clean enough to warrant a Picture Time, but not rare enough for Rare Rides duty. Check out this maroon rectangle.

Picture Time: Vintage American Luxury From Keeneland Concours

The other weekend, I traveled down to the rolling green acres of Kentucky for the annual Keeneland Concours event. There was a wide selection of vehicles at the show, and I love taking pictures.

Picture Time: 2018 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400

At the 2018 Infiniti Q50 First Drive event in Nashville (expect a full review Friday), I was able to spend a few moments with the top-of-the-line Q60 for 2018 — the Red Sport 400. While I didn’t get enough time behind the wheel to provide you with the sort of detailed and meaningful review you’d like to see, the pictures turned out alright. It’s nice to see a luxury coupe with a (mostly) white interior.

Holy Eldorado!

Picture Time: A Toyota Prius Dressed up Like a Solo Cup

Making its way around the internet lately is this photo of a Toyota Prius, tastefully modified by its present owner. Dancing boldly across the side of the hybrid is the iconic 1990s teal and purple Solo Cup theme. This jazzy decal is well known to anyone who has drank a beverage between 1992 and now.

Picture Time: When Grammar Eludes Professional Grade

Browsing through Facebook, one must often sort through and endure a constant barrage of poor grammar and misspellings. Generally we accept this (or I do) as one of the pitfalls in our present digital age. Everything is instant, quantity is more important than quality, and getting a Like and a Share means a lot to some people.

But I expect more from the advertisements I’m forced to view than I do from the common man, especially when precision is part of the ad copy.

Picture Time: The Couple Really Needs Your Help

You’re all too familiar with that image, aren’t you? She’s laughing hysterically or having some sort of crisis. Her male friend, hand outstretched to receive his car key, looks on in amazement at her awkward and overblown reaction within this sales situation. They are The Couple, and they are stock image gold.

Want more of them? You got it.

Picture Time: More of the Mercury Villager Nautica

I’m back again. Shortly after today’s QOTD about special editions went live, I received an email back from a kind contact at Ford. She provided me with the press photos of the Mercury Villager Nautica I had requested. Since they’re so nice, and you probably haven’t seen them anywhere else, it’s Picture Time.

Feast your eyes on this tasty minivan.

  • Picard234 I'm not sure I'm going to rush in to trade my Soul for this. Interior does look pretty nice.
  • VoGhost Hmmm, Stellantis is failing and Stellantis has essentially no EVs to sell. Coincidence? I think not.
  • Qwerty shrdlu While I've seen BMWs with what looks like disruptive camoflauge driving around Charleston SC, it seems less like a secret and more "Hey look at me!" Likewise, a lot of spy shots are made by photographers who somehow knew exactly when and where to set up to take the shot.
  • Dwford Yes. Why are there so few spy shots online these days?
  • Michael S6 I’m holding out for the Jeep Compass Hellcat edition. I heard that the power to weight ratio will be mind boggling.
