The Heisenberg Cartel Second problem on the Bimmer: front passenger window reg broke. r+r took around two hours and 1 1/2 hours of that was me either exploring around or hunting for lost tools. Total cost 45 dollars.

Next up: new brake pads and a new rear passenger door moulding.

DrivenToMadness I have an E90, my first German car: an 08 M3 sedan, 6MT, about 53K miles. *Car is still under CPO warranty, and I'm the 3rd owner (bought it from the second guy who bought it as a CPO vehicle). *I use the car daily for commute and hauling kids.

The most glaring "eccentricity" (which is apparently normal according to all the online information I can gather) is that it uses a lot of oil. *I have to add 1000ml of the 10W-60 oil just about every 1000 miles, sometimes more often if I had driven the car more aggressively on Sundays. *Other than that, changing out the spark plugs at the specified interval solved a throttle tip-in knock issue.

So far the only intermittent electrical gremlin is the power mirrors resetting to weird positions due to possibly corroded electrical contacts. *The gas mileage is atrocious (14mpg the way I drive/commute). *But I absolutely love the car: how it reacts, how it sounds, and how it makes me feel even doing something as mundane as dropping off the kids.

tjh8402 Nifty idea. *Interesting to see the popularity of the e46 here...probably good reason for that. *I have a 2004 330i zhp. *Absolutely love love love love love the car. *I'm the 4th owner, and I have maintenance records going back to the second owner. *I also have the original new car window sticker, as well as its BMW CPO window sticker. *My hope is that I will never have to get rid of it. *bought it in Nov 2011 with 99k miles, and now have 131k. *Repairs/replacements:

-4 new tires. *Went with Michelin Pilot Sports because I wanted a summer tire with a mileage warranty and that was only the Michelins. *$$$$ but wonderful tires.

-water pump

-clutch safety switch

-DISA valve

-A/C compressor

-Driver and passenger side front power window regulators

-Taillight recall

-new engine...yes I had to replace the engine. *I had the car on track at Sebring International Raceway and grabbed the gear on a panic stop downshift (should've put the car and neutral and just stood on the brakes FML). *Overreved the engine. *Put a nice hole in the block and the number 5 piston is unaccounted for. *Was very fortunate to find a replacement motor from a totaled zhp of the same model year with fewer miles. *Also replaced the clutch while I was in there.

Lessor, actually. I missed that car when it was gone, but the trouble we had with the "BMW Business" radio made me nervous.

A friend of TTAC is currently leasing a 2013 328i Sport six-speed, as soon as we get a snow-free day we're going to run a feature on it.*

burgersandbeer The Heisenberg Cartel said @burgersandbeer sorry, brainfarted, it is the 5MT. Is that all **** that broke or is some of it time-changes and/or pre-emptive (besides the tires, brakes and software) The control arms were preventive, and somewhat of a mod as I used the zhp control arms with the beefier ball joints. Even buying online, this was somewhat spendy and if I knew what I was in for with the rest of the car, I wouldn't have done it. The fuel pump might have been unnecessary. Symptoms were hard starts and misfires on starting. Fuel pumps do fail on these cars, so that is what the indy recommended. I wonder if it was just a combination of the starter failing and the old software. That one bothers me. The starter eventually died; car had to be towed home from work. I should have seen it coming, since the previous few starts were rough. The differential bushings and driveshaft rebuild was to address a lot of clunking under the car during shifting between 1-2 and sometimes 2-3 and shifting weight using throttle, even at parking lot speeds. I guess you could say it all broke. Didn't leave me stranded or anything, but it wore out. Intake adjuster was busted. If it fails completely a piece of it can get sucked into the intake, so that couldn't be ignored. Valve cover and oil filter housing gaskets are common failures after 100k miles, especially the valve cover gasket.

Sam P Yeah, I suppose one of them will eventually fail on my car although the failures seem to be more prevalent on early E46s.
