Morning all, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster here. *Saw that post yesterday about getting 200k out of a 3 grand mitsu.... totally hysterical, but it got me thinking. *I usually bus it, walk or bike the 2.5 miles from my home to work, but this winter has been so bitter and my young kids will soon need to be karted around to school / activities, that I've been thinking of getting a used ride. *Have about 2-3K to spend, and I'm wondering what to get. *Can you get something reliable and dare I say, fun to drive for 3K? *Any recs? *

Fun is a relative term. and it is not necessarily counterproductive with reliable. You can have a lot of fun with a boring old sled on the backroads.

As for a reliable kid-wagon in that price range you might find some old W-body sedans or their related buick counterparts, a Taurus with the Vulcan v6, (bonus points for the wagon), an older camry, or if you hit the jackpot, a civic/accord with the MT

I second what badcoffee said. The American midsize sedans are the best value at that price point.*
