So I just got this email survey from good ol' Ford: Tell us which hands-free technologies interest you. Say what you mean â€" and see how your car reacts? Actually, this isn't far from reality. Voice- and motion-activated technologies are being put to use every day in our vehicles. Music, directions and communication are available with the sound of your voice.* And available features such as foot-activated liftgates can open with the kick of your foot. So what's next? You tell us. What hands-free technologies would you like to see next in your vehicle? O Â*Â* Â*I don't care. I'm happy using my hands. O Â*Â* Â*I'd like to see voice-activated power windows. O Â*Â* Â*There are lots of technologies that open things. I want to be able to say, "Close liftgate." O Â*Â* Â*Voice-activated cruise control would be nice. A sign they're throwing in the towel with MFT and making everything voice activated?

I would say that they're interested in expanding voice activated systems as a means of bringing more connectivity features without running afoul of the anti-distracted driving sentiment currently prevailing among legislators.

Anyone here remember a passage on Bob Lutz's book about a technology Buick was developing called 'Quiet Servant' that was pretty much "tomorrow's" voice-activated controls in its infancy?
Probably should've invested more time into refining that...

Car Guys and Bean Counters. I believe Lutz axed further development of it; it had some elements of a debut in the '01 Bengal concept.
