Default VANOS Solenoid MOV Options?

I've been having problems with bank 2 late advance fault codes.

Had new CPS fitted so I decided to pull out the VANOS boards to test the solenoids.

1 of the solenoids didn't fire when applying power from a 9V battery.

All the connections seem fine when testing continuity.

I removed the bad solenoid and applied the same power directly to the connections and it powers and clicks fine.

This would make me believe it is either bad wiring/solder joints, but seeing as I get continuity from all connections relating to that bad solenoid I'm putting it down to a bad MOV.

I read a thread pointing to a part number for a switching diode, Radio Shack 1N914 - 1N4148, however the OP wasn't sure if this would be correct due to the fact it allows power to travel through it in both directions and a definitive answer wasn't found.

Has anyone had any experience in this area, or know the correct MOV or switchable diode that can be used in place of the current one.
