How are you ?

My understanding is that the rotary piston of the Wankel engine has sealing components only toward the sides containing the spark plugs.

If this is correct, why there are no sealing components on the lateral (plane) parts of the rotary piston ?

I think the thermal dilatation of the piston and of the enclosure are different, thus the dimensions change from the cold status to the heated status, including on the lateral (plane) faces of the piston and chamber.
