I know I'm on the low side for my age but I like to buy used, make at least a $1000 down payment, and take a long loan because I know I'm going to keep the vehicle for many years.

1. 1982 Chevy Celebrity sedan Iron Duke (1993-1997) - 1st car former family car, Dad basically gave it to me when the resale value dropped below $600. When I dropped it the car had 150,000 miles, sister drove it another 3 years after that.

2. 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham sedan, (1997 to 2001) 307V8, posi-trac, every available option except power vent windows. Another former family car, got it at about 100,000 miles drove it to 150,000 miles before it was stolen in Detroit, MI over Thanksgiving Weekend of 2001. Cops found the stripped carcass in an alley, total loss.

3. 1997 Ford Escort wagon (2001 to 2009) 2.0 SOHC and automatic, all the options but no cruise control. Picked it up with 21,000 miles and took it to 70,000 before the ex-wife took it in the divorce. She only wanted it because it was paid off.

4. 2004 Ford F150 Heritage (2006 to present) 4.6V8 automatic and bench seat, rubber floor, crank windows. I hope I still have it when its 40 years old and I'm in my 70s.

5. 1967 Ford Mustang Convertible (July 2013 to present) 289V8 and automatic, family heirloom. Dad cried when he signed over the title.
