Volkswagen Announces the Refreshed 2025 Taos
Volkswagen’s smallest crossover is getting an overhaul for the 2025 model year. The Taos, which debuted a few years ago, will see refreshed exterior styling, new interior fixtures, and an upgraded turbocharged engine.
The 2025 Taos receives a revised front end with a new bumper, updated grille, an available LED light bar, and standard LED projector headlights. An illuminated VW badge is available for the rear, and the automaker will offer three new paint colors: Bright Moss Green, Monterey Blue Pearl, and Monument Gray. There are also new wheel choices depending on the trim.
The interior sees a new dash design with upgraded materials and more color choices. VW equips an eight-inch floating infotainment touchscreen and said that the Taos features more sound deadening for a quieter cabin. The base S comes with cloth upholstery, while the SE and SE Black trims get synthetic leather. The SEL comes with genuine hides in either black/grey or dark blue.
Volkswagen massaged the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, bumping output from 158 horsepower to 174. The seven-speed dual-clutch has also been replaced by an eight-speed automatic that VW said would enhance drivability and refinement.
The IQ.Drive safety suite is standard for all variants. It brings forward collision warnings and automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and more.
We don’t have pricing for the new crossover yet, but VW said it would offer more details closer to the Taos’ launch later in 2024.

- EBFlex Still a garbage, high strung V6 for an engine and not a proper V8, ugly af, and a horrible interior. What were they thinking? This will not help it's lackluster sales.
- TheEndlessEnigma Some of the PHEV's out there boast CHADEMO connectors, chargers accepting that connection method are almost nonexistent in North America. That has more than a little to do with the issue. That and PHEV's as a whole are offered on only very limited models, not necessarily desirable models either.
- KOKing I owned a Paul Bracq-penned BMW E24 some time ago, and I recently started considering getting Sacco's contemporary, the W124 coupe.
- Bob The answer is partially that stupid manufacturers stopped producing desirable PHEVs.I bought my older kid a beautiful 2011 Volt, #584 off the assembly line and #000007 for HOV exemption in MD. We love the car. It was clearly an old guy's car, and his kids took away his license. It's a perfect car for a high school kid, really. 35 miles battery range gets her to high school, job, practice, and all her friend's houses with a trickle charge from the 120V outlet. In one year (~7k miles), I have put about 10 gallons of gas in her car, and most of that was for the required VA emissions check minimum engine runtime. But -- most importantly -- that gas tank will let her make the 300-mile trip to college in one shot so that when she is allowed to bring her car on campus, she will actually get there!I'm so impressed with the drivetrain that I have active price alerts for the Cadillac CT6 2.0e PHEV on about 12 different marketplaces to replace my BMW. Would I actually trade in my 3GT for a CT6? Well, it depends on what broke in German that week....
