Porsche Details a Busy Electric Vehicle Roadmap
We’ve been hearing about Porsche’s electric ambitions for a while, and the automaker has confirmed that the Macan will be powered by electrons soon. A short while ago, there were strong rumors that the automaker would build an ultra-high-end EV to slot in above the Cayenne, and it recently clarified how its next few years would play out from a product perspective.
Porsche said it would shift 80 percent of its new vehicle sales volume to electrics by 2030 and confirmed that a flagship electric SUV is coming. It will ride on the VW SSP Sport platform, which Porsche developed. Codenamed K1, the SUV will get a novel battery design and a 920-volt electrical architecture, which will give it a rapid charging time.
Other EVs hitting the Porsche catalog include a Macan EV in 2024, and electric Boxter and Cayman variants will land the year after. Porsche’s current flagship SUV, the Cayenne, will be offered with an electric powertrain by the middle of the decade.
Porsche has a healthy outlook, as it closed a solid initial public offering in 2022 and told Automotive News that its order books are “well-filled.” It, along with other luxury automakers, is enjoying the benefits of having well-heeled customers that aren’t as affected by economic changes, such as inflation.
