Kia Shows Off Yet Another Electric SUV

The Kia EV6 just landed last year, and the three-row EV9 is on its way for 2024, but there’s already another electrified Kia to discuss. The automaker recently hosted an event in China, during which it showed the EV5 concept. The ultra-futuristic-looking two-row SUV could be sold here, as its tidy Sportage-like dimensions would make an appropriate foil for the larger EV9.

Though strikingly forward-looking, the EV5 offers a boxy, upright shape that mirrors the EV9’s look, and the SUV will ride on 21-inch wheels. The concept’s interior is wild, with swivel seats and a floor panel that can convert into a mobile coffee table. Kia integrated solar panels with the car’s panoramic sunroof that can help restore range, and the rear-opening doors give the EV a standout curb presence.

There are no specs available, and Kia didn’t say when or if the EV5 would come to the U.S., but the automaker seemed to hint at the move in its press release.

“The production model of the EV5 will be released first in the Chinese market later this year,” it said. “Details regarding any future plans for other global markets will be made in due course.”
