Hummer EV 3X Trim Adds Range to SUV and Pickup

The Hummer EV has a sky-high price tag and wait times that extend to two years for some people. Despite that, and the fact that production isn’t rolling at blazing speed, GMC’s pushing forward with model year updates for 2023, including more range for the pickup and SUV variants.

The Hummer 3X Pickup now offers 355 miles of range per charge, and the 3X SUV offers 314 miles. The 3X trim builds on the Edition 1 model with 22-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch all-terrain tires, and it’s available with an “Extreme Off-Road Package” that includes underbody skid plates, 18-inch wheels, and side steps. Choosing the off-road package drops the range to 329 miles, but that’s still a respectable range number. The SUV drops from 314 to 298 with the package.

The 3X trim adds range but leaves the Hummer’s impressive electric powertrain alone. For the truck, that means 1,000 horsepower and a GM-advertised “11,500 pound-feet of torque,” which has been heavily debated since the EV’s announcement. The SUV gets 830 horsepower, the same outrageous torque quote, and all vehicles get three electric motors, one in front and two in the rear.

More range is a fantastic thing for the Hummer EV because its abysmal MPGe ratings make it one of the least efficient electric vehicles on sale. It’s less efficient than the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T due to its massive curb weight and Soviet apartment block size, so any improvement is welcome.

Well, "Isn't that Speeeeeecial!" as the SNL CHurchlady would say.

But you forgot to mention that in ALL of the first three months of 2023, the geniuses at GM succeeded in making a GRAND TOTAL of TWO (that is 2, not 2,000 or 20,000 or 200,000) Hummer EVs.

And the obvious question, since they have far more than TWO reservations, is WHY?

In two days Tesla produces more vehicles than the entire two years production run of the Hummer EV.
