Chevrolet will unveil the hybrid, all-wheel drive Corvette E-Ray next week.

January 17 is the date to keep in mind, and there's a teaser video. That video shows that the car has a wider stance, side intakes, quad exhaust tips, and a lower front fascia.

Inside we see a button for "stealth mode" but we don't know what that does. It is probably an EV-only mode.

Rumors suggest the car will have an electric motor that drives the front wheels and a 6.2-liter V8 that drives the rears. Horsepower is expected to be around 650.

Check back next week for the full monty.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

    Directional wheels = no sale.

[Unless they are true directional, i.e., two molds.]

That's all it took to disqualify this car from your shopping list?

Z06 body kit, but with everything body color, will be the best-looking C8 to date.

I'll reserve judgment on the powertrain until we know more. But based on my experiences with (admittedly very different) vehicles that have separate front and rear powertrains, it will be a challenge to integrate them well enough for a sports car. (It works fine for a family CUV that just needs a little boost from the rear from time to time.)

I'd really like to see Corvette go head on against the 911 and it's family of variants, and win.

Just be thankful its not an SUV... yet.

If done right, it might be ok...Might...but while the General opened its wallet to make this car, and the screaming Z06 powerplant a reality, I strongly suspect that a "Corvetted" modification to whats already in the SUV stable will be what is produced. That is a non starter.
