General Motors is recalling 21,469 electric SUVs in the U.S. due to concerns about the unexpected activation of the anti-lock brake system, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced on Tuesday.

The recall affects GM's 2023-2024 Cadillac Lyriq all-wheel drive models, rear-wheel drive models remain unaffected. According to NHTSA documents, in rare circumstances, during certain braking events on dry surfaces at speeds below 25 mph, the vehicle may exhibit overly sensitive anti-lock braking system (ABS) control. In these conditions, if ABS falsely activates and a specific sequence of wheel movements occurs, the vehicle’s ABS system will continue to release the braking pressure in the vehicle’s service brake system, reducing stopping power which could result in a crash.

The issue, which will be addressed through an over-the-air software update, follows a preliminary evaluation by the NHTSA in April into more than 3,000 Cadillac Lyriq vehicles over claims related to a loss of brake assist. Anti-lock brake systems are crucial for preventing wheels from locking during braking, thereby reducing the risk of accidents.

  • ToolGuy Let me just check here: If I buy this vehicle for $29K I'm an idiot, but if I buy a base CR-V for $31,450 I'm a genius. People are funny.
