A New Trailer for the Upcoming Gran Turismo Movie is Here

Movie adaptations of video games aren’t always the most well-received at the box office, but the popularity of recent films may change that. The Super Mario Brothers movie just hit $1 billion in ticket sales, so it’s not surprising to see another beloved video game franchise headed to the big screen. A new trailer for the Gran Turismo movie just dropped, giving a glimpse before its August release.

David Harbour, Geri Halliwell Horner (Ginger Spice), and Orlando Bloom star in the film, which follows an esports racer who gets the chance to race for Nissan. Much of the trailer focuses on the fact that turning basement-dwelling gamers into race-ready athletes is an unrealistic premise, but there appears to be plenty of (CG) racing action to compensate.

We hope you like Nissans because the movie looks to be packed with them. From the GT-R to the new Z to hardcore racing cars, it’s all Nissan, all the time. Of course, the movie follows the Nissan racing team, so it’s not that surprising to see so many of its cars.

Given the cast, I’ll admit cautious optimism about this movie, but racing game movie adaptations don’t have the best track record. Need for Speed came out in 2014, and I’m still upset about it. Solid action couldn’t save the rest of that film from itself, and it never gained the popularity that the Fast and the Furious franchise did.

A very faithful adaptation to the games then.

You have to go to Forza for that. Want to burst thru the desert in an F450 Dually? You got it! Early K5 Blazer? Sure, why not. Ram 2500 Power Wagon? Yeah.

I'd be more interested in a movie in the same vein as 'Ford v Ferrari' on someone like Jim Clark or Jim Hall. They were both highly regarded and just may have an interesting story to tell that would make a good movie. Not saying this movie is a waste of time. Real life stories hold a bit more interest in the field of racing for me.
