Report: Ford Lightning Orders Open Next Week

A report from one of our corporate parent’s forums suggests that orders for the Ford Lightning may open up next week, on October 26.

That’s based on a message left to a forum user by a Ford salesperson.

Here’s the message in full:

“Good afternoon , this is with . I just found out that the F-150 Lightning order bank is scheduled to open on 10/26. At that point we will be able to convert reservations to orders an actually build out your truck. I’m looking forward to it. While reservations are time stamped, when we submit the order still matters. Feel free to call me with any questions at . I will reach out when we get a little closer to see about scheduling an appointment to get together and build your truck. Have a great day.”

These things are always worth taking with a grain of salt — how do we know this isn’t made up by the user? If it is real, how do we know the salesperson isn’t mistaken or lying? — but if it is real, well, that means the Lightning strikes (sorry) your fancy, you can put your order down in less than seven days.

The build and price configuration tool may also go live on the company’s consumer Web site around that same time — it would have to, really, in order for consumers to spec the truck how they’d like. Keep an eye on Ford’s site.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

With the chip shortage there might be a long long wait. Heard nothing more on the Maverick I ordered on July 25 but the dealer told me it would probably be next Spring which probably the soonest. There are those who ordered Broncos still waiting over a year. Meanwhile prices of all vehicles keep climbing.

@Jeff S: Did you read why there's a chip shortage for cars? Has to do with the chips being 20-year-old technology being fabricated on 20-year-old machines. The slowdown due to covid-19 idled the machines and laid-off/retired most of the people who knew how to work them. The recommended best fix is to use newer technologies across the board, which is basically forcing the auto companies to redesign the chips.

  • If it can be had with the LR battery for less than 60k off the showroom floor I'm buying one. Don't need autodrive, so that will save a CHUNK. Like about 95% of all drivers, I can not drive 5 hours at a whack without stopping for 15-20 minutes and Rarely drive more than 100 miles away from my residence .. this will be perfect. And after a few software updates likely even faster with slightly better range.

@kjhkjlhkjhkljh kljhjkhjklhkjh - I'd consider one of thise if it wasn't for the fact that I'd prefer something smaller like a ZR2 diesel Colorado. Oh, and yeah, where's the hate mail? LOL

Need to get best roof paint nz and learn more new ways for helpful tips for roof washing. According to a report published today, you can now place your order for the Lightning. There was a lot of speculation about when orders would open up, but now they're official. The model is slated to hit dealerships on February 21st, 2014.
